Nature & Architecture | The vision of Emilio Ambasz told by Prof. Fulvio Irace

Conferenza Fulvio Irace

The enlightened thought of Emilio Ambasz as told by Prof. Fulvio Irace

Emilio Ambasz was a precursor and steadfast advocate of the “Green over Gray” theory, in which the “grayness” of architecture is covered by the green of nature, understood as a political and ecological agent, a primary space in which nature itself fulfills the role of an architectural element. A true manifesto against the dominance of rigid, “constructed,” gray architectural form, it instead proposes a hybrid harmony between human creation and pre-existing nature, giving back to nature the space that was “stolen” from it.
The talk, moderated by Davide Contran, will be given by Professor Fulvio Irace, historian and critic of architecture and Professor Emeritus at the Politecnico di Milano. Internationally recognized as an expert and critic of Italian architecture, his work has contributed to the re-evaluation of Italian architectural identity in the international context, critically examining design culture and the ideological foundations of contemporary architectural thought.
Author of numerous books on Ambasz’s ecological vision, including Emilio Ambasz. Green Architecture and Design Fables, Professor Fulvio Irace’s contribution in the field of green design and architecture fits perfectly within the theme of the tenth edition of Italian Design Day: “RE-DESIGN. Regenerating spaces, objects, ideas, relationships.”
Regeneration, understood both in urban terms and in relation to objects throughout their life cycle, points to the use of recycled materials in the production chains of Italian design, which has long been a committed promoter of sustainable and innovative supply chains.
