From the “𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞” of the Screen to the “𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐫” of the Stage
The 1st Lopburi Film and Theatre Festival
“Lop Rama,” a collective organizing film festivals and events in Lopburi Province, presents a screening of “8½” on the occasion of the “Frame to Floor” festival. The film is a masterpiece by Federico Fellini starring Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimée, Sandra Milo, and Rossella Falk.
Synopsis: Guido is a director in his forties, and he is a bit tired. Everything about him is tired: his relationship with his wife, his producer, his friends, and even his mistress. Naturally, his inspiration has grown thin, ideas are rare and abstract, and laziness is creeping in. He has ordered the construction of an immense, expensive scaffolding structure that might be used for a sci-fi film—perhaps. In fact, Guido himself does not know why he had it built. Around him swirl all the “characters” of the cinema world: shouting technicians, producers’ mistresses, wishful thinkers pitching screenplays, and aging actresses hoping for one last hurrah. Guido chases after idea after idea, all of them pale and abandoned. A film critic with incredibly cryptic language tears apart his initiatives one by one. He seeks a bit of help from a high-ranking prelate, who responds to his anxieties by speaking of goldfinches. Fortunately, his imagination can run free into the past, into his adolescence, back to his homeland during his school days and his earliest sensations—the fears, the mysteries, the curiosities, and the first exciting transgressions.
