Project Asian Art Century 2026 Chiang Mai | Festival KOSMOS-Between Spirit and Matter : An artistic dialogue between Thailand and Italy

Asian Art Century with the involvement of the CAMT College of Arts, Media and Technology at Chiang Mai University and sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute in Bangkok, is part of the Chiang Mai Flower Festival 2026, an institutional event promoted by the Municipality and Province of Chiang Mai.

Asian Art Century, a non-profit platform dedicated to artistic and cultural exchange between Italy and Thailand, conceived KOSMOS as a bilateral cultural exchange project between Italy and Thailand, in which contemporary art becomes a tool for dialogue between languages, traditions, technology, and spiritual research. Since its foundation, the platform has aimed to create cultural synergy between Italy and Thailand, expanding the artistic offering to promote young talent. Therefore, with a view to constructive and reciprocal artistic exchange between the two countries, the Chiang Mai festival will involve a number of important Italian artistic organizations and Thai artists selected from over 450 candidates. Among those selected, three Thai artists with full scholarships will participate in Paratissima 2026 in Italy.

The Italian artists involved will present works based on the concept of dialogue between sound, video, and nature.

  • Alessandro Sciaraffa, artist and sound designer, winner of the Italian Council program of the Ministry of Culture, presents the immersive work TOTEM|Sinfonia. The installation consists of a gong, an audio system, and a video projection on a dedicated screen, within a space specially designed around the central themes of Sciaraffa’s work: the primordial sound of the gong and the observation of the aurora borealis evoke the cosmic vastness and intangible language of nature in a series of psychoacoustic suggestions. The work has also been exhibited in the past in Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Rome, and Bologna. The link to the interview with the artist is at Sinfonia – YouTube
  • Apotropia (Antonella Mignone & Cristiano Panepuccia) is an international artistic duo active in multimedia and site-specific installations, presenting the work In Circuito. The installation symbolizes the cycle of nature through geometry, sounds, and projections, circumscribing and encapsulating a glimpse of the sky. The installation exudes an almost religious aura, consisting in a pyramidal temple that supports botanical elements present in the Chiang Mai area. The local flora becomes an integral part of the artwork, providing insight into how nature, art, and design interact. The result is an intimate atmosphere that leaves the viewer in a state of suspended animation. The project was carried out by Share Project through the Artmaker #5 artist program, curated by Bruce.
  • Project-TO (Riccardo Mazza & Laura Pol) is an Italian artistic duo working in the fields of art, sound, and interactive systems. They will present the Resonant Frequencies project at the Wave Artisans Society in collaboration with CAMT. Riccardo Mazza is a sound experimenter and teacher at the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale in Saluzzo, known in Italy and abroad for his research in the field of psychoacoustics and spatial sound evaluation. Laura Pol, photographer and videomaker, is the author of numerous works in the world of art, culture, and museums. The installation is interactive: visitors place their finger on a sensor that detects their heartbeat, which is then conveyed to the viewer in the form of visual and auditory stimuli, creating an immersive atmosphere. This is made possible by an HD projector and a white projection surface, two speakers, and a sensor. The entire system is designed as a user-friendly interface, integrated into the gallery’s entire exhibition apparatus. Riccardo Mazza also offers an electronic performance entitled “When Nature Becomes Orchestra.”

The program also includes other activities such as a session on modern architecture of the 1960s and an educational talk for students on how to do business in the art world, held by the CEO and founder of Paratissima, Lorenzo Germak. In addition, the festival offers activities that invite visitors to connect with their inner selves, including palm reading according to chinese and thai astrological beliefs, (Palm Reading Art & Ancient Sak Yant), geomancy, also known as feng shui, and oracle readings by expert masters.

The program runs from February 4 to 15, 2026, at two main venues:
